Adorable Shelter Dog Who Struggled To Find A Home For Months Finally Meets His Forever Family

Shelter kennels are never meant to be permanent dogs’ homes, but a temporary place where they stay before finding a forever family.

While some shelter dogs get adopted quickly, the other, less desirable pups desperately wait to be noticed.
A sweet shelter dog named Carter knows how it feels to be overlooked day after day.

The eight-year-old dog felt invisible as he looked at the shelter visitors through the fence of his kennel, pleading with them to give him a chance.

Despite being ignored, Carter didn’t give up hope of getting his happy ending. He continued standing by his kennel door, hoping to steal someone’s heart.

Carter’s Story

In August of 2024, Carter was found at a parking lot and admitted to the Greene County Animal Shelter in Ruckersville, Virginia.

As soon as the staff members met Carter, they were delighted with his friendly and affectionate personality.

After scanning him for a microchip, the shelter found his previous adopters who surrendered him to a different shelter many years ago.
Since the rescue that Carter was adopted from was overcrowded, they couldn’t take him back.

The dog remained at The Greene County Animals Shelter, hoping that he would soon find humans who would never give him up.

Unfortunately, months passed and the lovely pup didn’t get any adoption interest.

The staff felt heartbroken when they realized that everyone kept passing by Carter’s kennel without noticing him.

They wished that people knew the doggo was a real sweetheart.

Dreams Come True

Carter’s shelter friends refused to give up on finding him a home.

On the 18th of November 2024, they posted the dog’s photo on Facebook along with his heartbreaking story, hoping to drum up some interest from potential adopters.

“You can tell he was loved at one point in his life, but sadly no one is wanting to love him during his senior time of his life,” The Greene County Animal Shelter wrote in a Facebook post.

Everyone who read the doggo’s story felt sad and began rooting for Carter to get his happy ending.

And then a miracle happened!

An amazing family reached out to the shelter, asking to meet the delightful boi.
After a wonderful meet and greet, the family filled in the adoption application for Carter. They couldn’t wait to shower him with love and give him the best possible life.

Carter was over the moon to move in with his new family and to turn over a new leaf.

Finally, the doggo has everything that he wished for. He lives his best life with his family and his doggy sibling Ethel who was also adopted from the Virginia shelter.
