Rodeo Performer Dylan Terro Recovering After Life-Threatening Accident At Cheyenne Frontier Days
The Dylan Terro rodeo injury happened at Cheyenne Frontier Days on Friday, July 25, leaving the pro rodeo crew member with life-threatening wounds.
This Dylan Terro rodeo injury shocked the rodeo community and required immediate medical attention.
Dylan Terro, 34, was opening a chute holding a bucking bronc when the horse suddenly kicked him in the heart. As a result, Terro collapsed and didn’t have a pulse when emergency personnel arrived.
A team of medics performed CPR on Terro and were able to regain a pulse before he was transported to the hospital.
Skip Ross, the doctor who witnessed bull rider Lane Frost’s death in 1989, said that medical staff at the arena and hospital worked together to save Terro’s life.
The quick response to the Dylan Terro rodeo injury was crucial in stabilizing him and saving his life.
Via reporter KT Rodeo on Facebook, Ross said, “Medical teams acted immediately after Dylan was kicked, entering the arena and getting him out safely. Justin Sports Medicine, paramedics, and on-site surgeons worked closely to stabilize him enough for transport to the hospital.”
The hospital was notified of Dylan’s injuries and was ready to treat him when he arrived.
“Similar injuries to this have less than a 1% chance of survival,” according to Dr. Ross.
The ER team stopped the bleeding before moving Terro to the operating room. There, doctors worked feverishly to save his life.
Terro’s family has shared updates on his recovery on social media.
The medical team placed Terro in the ICU, where he is now stable. His dad said doctors put Dylan in a medically induced coma to help his body rest and heal. Doctors let him wake up briefly each day to check his alertness, motor skills, and breathing.
His dad reported on Monday, “When he woke up, he had no clue what happened or where he was. At first, he didn’t understand what we were all doing there. However, his physical reactions to instructions were sharp and precise, which shows positive recovery of his brain and motor skills. After that, doctors began reducing the heart and breathing support to see if he could maintain his own for three minutes. Fortunately, he did so successfully!”
Updates that followed indicate that Terro is still on the path to recovery, but suffered some minor setbacks. See the update in the video below.
Dylan Terro is the husband of Jolie Bordreaux-Terro and the father of two young boys.
