Carole King Makes a Bold Declaration About Her Relationship With Taylor Swift
Carole King Declares Friendship with Taylor Swift at Virtual Rally
Carole King is a known Swiftie. However, the award-winning songwriter and musician recently made a bold declaration about her relationship with Taylor Swift.
On Tuesday, Aug. 27, King, 82, helped launch the Swifties for Kamala coalition during a virtual rally that raised more than $119,000 for Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential run. Guest speakers included the “You’ve Got a Friend” singer, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and others.
“I am a Swiftie,” King said during the virtual event, as seen in a clip shared via X. “Taylor and I are actually friends.”
She added, “We have had conversations backstage and, you know, I see her as, like, sort of my musical and songwriting granddaughter. And we have a lovely relationship, and I’m so proud of her.”
King’s Favorite Swift Song and Special Performance
King also mentioned that her favorite Swift song is “Shake It Off,” explaining, “I love the spirit of it, right?”
Later, she even gave a short performance of Swift’s 2014 smash hit.
A Lasting Bond: From Hall of Fame Induction to the AMAs
In 2021, Swift helped induct King into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She performed her hit song “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” before delivering a heartfelt induction speech
“I cannot remember a time when I didn’t know Carole King’s music,” Swift, 34, said. She noted that her parents raised her to believe King was “the greatest songwriter of all time.”
“Her songs speak to the true and honest feelings that everyone has felt, is currently feeling or hopes to feel one day,” she added.
Swift later shared, “Carole taught artists like me that telling your own story is worth the work and struggle it takes to earn the opportunity for your story to be heard.”
When King took the stage that night, she thanked Swift and referred to her as “my professional granddaughter.”
Previously, King presented Swift with the Artist of the Decade Award at the 2019 American Music Awards.
