Taylor Swift Praises Ryan Reynolds’ Work on Deadpool & Wolverine: ‘Feels Like an Actual Joy Portal’
Taylor Swift is getting on the Deadpool & Wolverine hype train.
On Thursday, July 25, Swift, 34, shared a photo of herself posing with the movie’s stars, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. She also included Reynolds’ wife and her close friend Blake Lively, and the film’s director Shawn Levy in the picture. Swift posted the photo to her Instagram Stories while praising the Marvel movie.
“Over the past few years, I have watched one of my best friends on this planet pour every bit of his heart and soul into this film,” Swift wrote in a caption underneath the photo. She continued, “He has given his sweat, time, energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic to this project.” “He’s created the best work of his life, and this film feels like an actual joy portal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich. I don’t know how he did it.”
“But that’s just Hugh for you!” she added, poking fun at Reynolds and Jackman’s longtime friendship and playful feud. “These other randoms crashed the photo and we were too polite to ask them to leave. 🙃”
Swift encouraged her social media followers to buy tickets to Deadpool & Wolverine ahead of its release in theaters on Friday, July 26. “Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids’ sperm donor,” she concluded, referencing Reynolds’ onscreen character’s real name.
The “Cruel Summer” singer has been friends with Reynolds, 47, for a number of years by virtue of her longtime friendship with Lively, 36.
She appeared to grow more acquainted with Jackman, 55, and filmmaker Levy, 56, throughout the fall of 2023. The Deadpool & Wolverine stars and their director accompanied her and Lively to an NFL game. They went to watch Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, play for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Swift’s blossoming friendship with Reynolds, Jackman and Levy even spawned rumors this spring that she may cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Despite the movie’s marketing, Swift does not appear in the new film. The marketing includes posters featuring Jackman and Reynolds’ characters wearing friendship bracelets. The bracelets are similar to those seen at Swift’s Eras Tour concerts. Entertainment Weekly confirmed this in June.
Reynolds and Jackman recently spoke about what it’s like to have a drink with Swift. They were promoting Heineken Silver’s new Deadpool & Wolverine-themed ads. Reynolds mentioned that Swift is “a fun person to have a beer with.”
“Well, if you get access to outside information — once you leave the bomb shelter — you’ll understand. Huge politician,” Reynolds joked. “And one of the funnier people. People keep asking if she’s in the movie, and I keep saying if there’s ever someone else to play Deadpool, I think it might actually be Taylor.”
