Shelter Staff Were Moved To Tears When A Lost Dog Saw Her Mom And Threw Herself Into Her Arms
When Coco went missing, her family was heartbroken.
They did everything they could to find their beloved dog, but unfortunately, she disappeared without a trace.
Months went by and there was no news of Coco.
Although her family started fearing the worst, they still held onto the hope that their girl was still alive and that one day, she would find her way back home.
Little did they know that Coco would soon reappear.
Roaming The Streets
The ten-year-old doggo missed her family and hoped that she would reunite with them.
As she wandered the streets, she observed the passers-by, hoping to recognize the familiar faces of her family members.
Unfortunately, both the people and her surroundings were new.
As much as she wanted, Coco didn’t know how to get back home.
Fortunately, one day, the animal control officers noticed her. They wanted to collect her and bring her to safety, but Coco started barking. She didn’t know whether she could trust them.
When the officers put a leash over her head, the doggo calmed down.
Coco was admitted to the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services in Texas.
As soon as she arrived, she charmed the staff with her friendly disposition.
“An education staffer saw her face on an internal report and thought, ‘That’s a dog that’s missing someone and someone is missing her,’” Lisa Norwood, public relations manager for City of San Antonio Animal Care Services, told The Dodo.
The team member visited Coco while she was staying in her kennel. She consoled her and reassured her that her family would find her.
The dog wagged her tail as she carefully listened to the kind lady.
A Familiar Face In The Crowd
The San Antonio shelter shared a photo of Coco on their website in hopes that her family would see her.
Several days later, Ms. G, the doggo’s mom, was scrolling on the website, checking the animals who were recently brought to the shelter.
When Coco’s mom saw her photo, her face lit up. She realized that it was her sweet doggo who had been lost for seven months… since April.
Ms G’s brother was Coco’s first owner. She raised the doggo, and later on, she became her primary caregiver.
Ever since the dog disappeared, Ms. G never stopped looking for her.
A Happy Reunion
As soon as she recognized her pup, she dashed to the shelter.
The same shelter member who consoled Coco in her shelter kennel was in her office near the front lobby when she heard someone saying, “Coco! Coco!”
Once the shelter staff members learned that Ms. G was Coco’s mom, they collected the doggo from her kennel and told her the happy news.
The moment the doggo saw her mom waiting for her in the lobby, she became overwhelmed with joy. She began jumping and wagging her tail.
Coco wrapped her paws around her mom and kissed her. Ms. G couldn’t contain her emotions as she hugged her dog.
The heartwarming reunion moved the staff to tears. They could tell how much Coco and her mom loved each other.
Coco’s family wasn’t sure how their dog got out of her home.
It turned out that she crossed the highway and wandered into another neighborhood a couple of miles from her home.
Everyone was thrilled because Coco was reunited with her family.
The shelter used the opportunity to remind pet owners of the importance of keeping their pet’s microchip updated.
“Coco’s story is a perfect reminder of why keeping your pet’s microchip up-to-date is so important. Her microchip was not registered with current family contact information, so thankfully her family was diligent in their search efforts to find her,” San Antonio Animal Care Service wrote on Facebook.
After Coco’s microchip information was updated, the doggo stepped out of the shelter with a smile on her face.
Her nightmare was over. Coco was ready to enjoy her life with her beloved family.
