This Severely Traumatized Shelter Dog Is Afraid To Eat The Food People Give Him
It’s quite common for rescuers to come across dogs who have been traumatized by people one way or another. However, some cases take it to the extreme.
There are dogs who have suffered for so long at the hands of other people that they can’t even look their rescuers in the eyes.
The staff at this shelter was in a similar situation when they first met Jindo. He was a very sweet dog who had gone through something horrible and it affected his mental state a lot.
His rescuers were shocked to see the state he was in, but they decided to try and offer him help so he could recover from his trauma.
He Couldn’t Look Them In The Eye
When the rescuers first approached Jindo in the shelter, they saw how deep his mental scars were. Anytime someone got close, he would try to move away.
No matter what they tried, he would just start panicking in their presence. They saw his teary eyes and felt horrible for him. Who could have abused this poor pup?
They tried offering him food, but he ignored pretty much everything they left near him. He just couldn’t trust them at all.
On occasion, Jindo would even bark at his rescuers out of fear, but he never dared to attack them because he was scared of what would happen. That speaks a lot on what he has been through.
So, the staff there tried talking in his presence, hoping this would somewhat calm him down, but Jindo’s condition wasn’t improving, even 3 weeks later.
They tried to give Jindo food, but he still ignored them, so somebody at the shelter suggested that they put a protection around his head. Maybe that would help.
Surprisingly, he started eating from their hand when they did that. Everyone was baffled by this, but they were happy that he was slowly starting to trust his rescuers.
Day by day, he was making progress, and everyone was happy about that. Jindo would even allow his rescuers to pet him, although he was still a bit hesitant.
A New Chapter In Jindo’s Life
Even though progress would go slowly, his rescuers were just happy to see that he was changing.
Almost 4 months passed, and Jindo felt confident enough to walk out of his kennel and interact with the other dogs there.
The staff thought it would be a good idea to start taking Jindo on small walks around the shelter with a leash on, so they put it on and were surprised that he was calm about it the whole time.
They trained him to walk around more and his confidence grew with each passing day. His weight increased and he was becoming a lot more energetic
Jindo is very cheerful around his rescuers and they are so proud of the progress he has made in the 5 months he has been in their care. He is a lot more social now, especially around other animals.
Even though he had been mistreated for so long, he was able to slowly regain his faith in other people.
While that did take a lot of time, it’s comforting to know that Jindo is able to lead a somewhat normal life now.
While we don’t know much about what happens next in his story, or if he has found a forever home with one of his rescuers, one thing is clear: he is a happy dog now and finally got the second chance he always desperately needed.
