Shania Twain has opened up about why she was absent from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s high-profile wedding, citing a prior concert commitment that made attendance impossible.
Swift and Kelce married on July 3 in a ceremony held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, bringing to a close a romance that had been building publicly since the summer of 2023. The wedding drew a wide guest list that included several country music figures, but Twain — one of the genre’s most recognizable names — was not among them. The reason, as Twain explained in an interview with Etalk, came down to scheduling: she was already locked in to open for Harry Styles during his 12-show Wembley Stadium residency in London.
Twain told Etalk that she “would have done anything” to be there, but that her concert schedule left her no option. She softened the admission with a pointed joke, suggesting that if Styles ever decides to get married, he will need to give her considerably more notice if he wants her in the pews.
How Swift and Kelce Got Here
The couple’s relationship first drew public attention in July 2023, when Kelce attended one of Swift’s Eras Tour concerts. He later recounted on his New Heights podcast that he had hoped to hand Swift a friendship bracelet printed with his phone number but never got the opportunity. Swift eventually acknowledged the story herself, and the two went on to confirm their relationship publicly — most notably when Swift attended a Kansas City Chiefs game in September 2023, and when the pair were photographed leaving a Saturday Night Live after-party together in October of that year. Kelce proposed in August 2025.
Inside the Ceremony
The couple kept the majority of wedding details private, though sources had indicated ahead of time that the event would take place over the holiday weekend. In place of traditional wedding party roles, Swift’s brother Austin Swift served as her Man of Honor, while Travis’s brother Jason Kelce stood as Best Man. Actor and comedian Adam Sandler reportedly officiated. After the ceremony, jumbotrons outside Madison Square Garden displayed the message “JUST&T MARRIED!” to mark the occasion.
With Twain currently committed to the Wembley residency alongside Styles, country fans will be watching to see what she has planned once that run concludes.
