Court documents made public following the July 17 finalization of the couple’s divorce reveal that both Jason DeFord, known professionally as Jelly Roll, and Alisa DeFord, known as Bunnie Xo, were advised by their respective attorneys to consult independent lawyers specializing in genetic and reproductive rights before pursuing reproduction post-divorce. The warning cited rapidly evolving reproductive technology, shifting case law, and the complex legal status of genetic material. Both chose to waive that recommendation.
What the Agreement Says
The marital dissolution agreement, as reported by People, explicitly acknowledges that both attorneys admitted they lack expertise in genetic and reproductive law. The filing notes the so-called “interim category” of legal interests that courts have applied to genetic material, though it stops short of explaining precisely how that framework would affect the former couple’s specific circumstances.
