Netflix has set a July 23, 2026 premiere date for Ransom Canyon Season 2, bringing back the Texas Hill Country drama after confirming its renewal and completing production earlier this year.
The series, based on Jodi Thomas’s book series, follows Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel), a rancher navigating the fight to protect his land from an encroaching energy company, and Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), a former concert pianist who returned to her Texas hometown after a career setback. Season 1 tangled their long friendship into a complicated on-and-off romance while also revealing that Kirkland’s own father, Senator Samuel Kirkland, was quietly working to help outside financial interests exploit the town’s resources. The season closed with Quinn departing for a six-month job in New York City, leaving both her relationship with Staten and Ransom’s future unresolved.
What Season 2 Will Explore
Producers describe the new season as pushing that unresolved tension further, with a mysterious cowboy arriving in Ransom and unearthing secrets from the past while Staten continues fighting to hold onto his land and the relationship that grounds him. Showrunner April Blair told TV Insider that Season 2 will likely open with a six-month time jump to account for Quinn’s New York absence, though she noted nothing had been locked in stone at the time of the interview. Production ran from early October 2025 through January 2026 at Netflix Studios Albuquerque in New Mexico, where the production team used solar power and geothermal heating and cooling to reduce costs and the show’s carbon footprint.
Cast Changes and New Additions
Duhamel and Kelly both return, joined by Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Jack Schumacher, and Marianly Tejada. Casey W. Johnson has been elevated to series regular for the new season. Ben Robson joins in a recurring role as Oliver, a potential new love interest for Quinn, while Heidi Engerman recurs as Sydney. Patricia Clarkson will guest star as Claire O’Grady, Quinn’s mother. Steve Howey, best known from Reba, joins as Levi, Staten’s half-brother. According to Deadline, Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner will not return as series regulars.
