Jelly Roll is opening up about the toughest mental battle of his more-than-200-pound weight loss — the pull of stress eating and the addictive patterns that can unravel hard-won progress.
The country artist, who began his health and fitness journey in 2022, has been candid with fans throughout the process, documenting both milestones and setbacks along the way. Earlier this year he revealed he had dropped below 300 pounds — a weight he had not seen since middle school — and in January he landed on the cover of Men’s Health. Now, in a recent YouTube video, Jelly Roll is getting specific about one of the hardest obstacles he continues to face.
One Treat, A Familiar Spiral
In the video, Jelly Roll described stopping at a venue that served a dairy-free skillet cookie — one of his favorite indulgences and something he typically avoids — and quickly finding himself unable to stop. He drew a direct parallel to addiction.
“I’m like a drug addict,” he said. “You can’t eat that, because if I eat one, I eat two. I eat four.”
He explained that a single small indulgence can snowball rapidly as what he calls the “addict” in him takes over, and that getting back on track after giving in to temptation remains a genuine struggle. Recognizing those patterns, he said, has become one of the most critical parts of the journey.
Progress Marked by Patience and Milestones
Throughout his transformation, Jelly Roll has consistently encouraged others dealing with obesity to stay patient when results are slow to appear. “I encourage all really obese people to be patient that first month,” he has said. “Your body is going through so many early changes. You’re not going to see the results you think you’re entitled to.”
He has also celebrated the tangible rewards of his progress. Last summer he posted video of himself riding an electric scooter through city streets, and later shared that he could now fit into Louis Vuitton clothing — joking “Pray for my bank account” in a post tagged from a trip to Rome.
For fans who have followed Jelly Roll’s journey since 2022, his willingness to discuss setbacks alongside victories adds a dimension of honesty that continues to resonate well beyond his music.
