Freedom 250 To Celebrate The Nation’s 250th Birthday
Freedom 250 is a non-partisan initiative celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence on July 4, 2026. The movement connects federal, state, and local efforts to foster a “Golden Age of Opportunity.”
Freedom 250 will work alongside the White House Task Force 250 to coordinate a nationwide year of festivities which began on Memorial Day 2025. The initiative aims to honor U.S. history, innovation, and the enduring ideals of freedom, according to its website.
UFC Fight Takes Place On White House Lawn
As part of that celebration, on Sunday (June 14) the South Lawn of the White House was home to its very first UFC fight. Back in August of 2025, Dana White, president of the UFC and a known friend of Donald Trump, first confirmed that the organization was planning the historic event.
According to the Trump administration, it is a coincidence that the fight will be held on June 14, which is observed annually as Flag Day and will also mark the 80th birthday of President Donald Trump.
Competitors are expected to enter the ring from the Oval Office, taking advantage of the historic venue. The headlining fight of UFC Freedom 250 will be between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje, who are vying to prove their dominance as lightweight champions.
A heavyweight fight will also be held, featuring Alex Pereira against Ciryl Gane.
Zac Brown Performs National Anthem
To kick off the event, country music group Zac Brown Band delivered a patriotic rendition of the National Anthem.
Prior to the big night, the country group and UFC even teamed up for a limited-edition merchandise collaboration, inspired by the “raw energy of a UFC fight night.”
Taking the stage in a classic and patriotic themed striped suit, Zac Brown could be seen without his signature hat, joined by the United States Marine Band. With the White House visible behind him, the country star performed a powerful rendition of the iconic song.
As Brown sang the final verse, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels performed a spectacular flyover, and the crowd roared into applause. Dana White and President Trump were also seen celebrating the performance together, cheering side by side as it came to an end.
