Morgan Wallen used a Baltimore concert to unveil “Been By Now,” a new single arriving July 24 that signals the superstar is moving toward his next album.
Wallen debuted the track live on July 17 in Baltimore, Maryland, giving fans their first taste of music that appears to be part of an upcoming studio project. The rollout suggests Wallen has a release strategy in motion, though he has not officially confirmed a new album is on the way.
What “Been By Now” Sounds Like
The song centers on a relationship stuck in a prolonged, unresolved back-and-forth — two people who keep trying to make it work without ever fully committing. The chorus captures that tension directly: “If it was meant to be, we’d have been by now / We wouldn’t have to keep trying to work things out / Yeah baby, we’re a breeze when the lights go down / It wouldn’t be so hard when we ain’t in the dark.” Onstage, the track played out over a broody, mid-tempo arrangement. Wallen had already been hinting at the song on social media, including a post shared just before the Baltimore show imagining “Been By Now” as a piano ballad.
What It Could Mean for a New Album
Wallen’s fans will remember that “Lies Lies Lies,” the lead single from his most recent album I’m the Problem, landed nearly a year before that record’s full release — so a lengthy buildup remains a real possibility this time around. His four studio albums to date have each arrived two to three years apart, a pattern that would point to a next release sometime in the first half of 2027. If past form holds in another respect, that album would also be a substantial listen: each Wallen release has expanded its track count beyond the last, with I’m the Problem topping out at 37 songs.
With “Been By Now” due July 24, attention now turns to whether Wallen will confirm a broader project and how quickly additional music follows.
