A first-of-its-kind national youth athletics competition, the 2026 Patriot Games, kicks off Sunday, Aug. 9, at Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, offering two student athletes a shot at a $125,000 scholarship.
Set against the backdrop of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, the three-day event runs Aug. 9–11 and brings together 120 high school competitors between the ages of 14 and 17, representing all 50 states, U.S. territories, tribal nations, and military bases. Led by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and aligned with his Make America Healthy Again movement, the competition is designed to spotlight physical excellence and character in the country’s next generation of athletes.
What the Competition Involves
According to ESPN, the Patriot Games will challenge competitors across skills drawn from football, basketball, soccer, and track, alongside elements of the Presidential Fitness Test and a military-inspired boot camp circuit. Finalists will ultimately face an obstacle course built to test both strategy and skill. After three days of competition, eight athletes advance to the finale, where one male and one female competitor will be crowned the inaugural 2026 Patriot Games champions. Each winner takes home a $125,000 scholarship.
The White House has described the event as “a nationally televised first-of-its-kind youth athletics competition,” and the Freedom 250 website frames it as a celebration of “the character, determination, and excellence that define the American spirit.”
How and When to Watch
Live coverage of all three competition days streams through the ESPN App. ESPN’s broadcast team will be anchored by Laura Rutledge, Matt Barrie, Beth Mowins, and Tom Hart, with analysts Jordan Rodgers, Sean Farnham, Ron Slay, and Danielle Lawrie, and reporters Brooke Weisbrod and Marion Crowder on the ground.
The Aug. 9 schedule opens at 9 a.m. with the Boys Presidential Qualifier, followed by the Girls Presidential Qualifier at 1 p.m., and evening sessions covering kickball and dodgeball beginning at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, features the Girls Varsity Circuit and Boys Operation Endurance at 11 a.m., with the Boys Varsity Circuit and Girls Operation Endurance at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, closes the live competition with Tug-of-War at 10:30 a.m., Victory Hoops at 11:30 a.m., and the Semifinal, Final, and Closing ceremony at 7 p.m. A one-hour highlights special then airs on ABC at 9 p.m. EST on Thursday, Aug. 13.
