Cole Hauser may play an orphaned ranch hand on Yellowstone, but the actor’s real-life roots run deep through one of Hollywood’s most storied dynasties.
Hauser is best known to television audiences as Rip Wheeler, the fiercely loyal and hard-edged foreman on the hit Paramount Network drama Yellowstone, a role he has held across four seasons. Off screen, however, his biography reads less like a Rip Wheeler origin story and more like a crash course in entertainment industry history — spanning actors, screenwriters, producers, and the founding of one of the world’s most recognizable media companies.
A Family Tree Rooted in Hollywood History
Hauser’s father is actor Wings Hauser, a veteran television presence whose credits include The Young & the Restless, Magnum, P.I., The A-Team, Murder, She Wrote, Roseanne, Walker, Texas Ranger, JAG, House, Bones, and Criminal Minds, along with a film resume that includes the Al Pacino and Russell Crowe drama The Insider. His mother, Cass Warner, founded the production company Warner Sisters. On his father’s side, his grandfather was Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dwight Hauser. On his mother’s side, his grandfather was screenwriter and producer Milton Sperling — and his great-grandfather was Harry Warner, one of the original founding partners of Warner Bros.
Despite that lineage, Hauser’s upbringing was far from glamorous. His parents divorced when he was two, and his mother relocated him and his siblings to Oregon and then Florida before eventually returning to California. He reconnected with his father at 15 and left school entirely at 16 to pursue acting. Before landing Yellowstone, he had already appeared in notable films including School Ties, Dazed and Confused, and Good Will Hunting.
His Wife Brought Her Own Star Power to the Marriage
Hauser’s personal life also has deep entertainment ties. His wife, Cynthia Daniel, is a former model and actress recognized for playing Elizabeth Wakefield on Sweet Valley High from 1994 to 1997. Daniel and her twin sister Brittany began modeling at age 11, becoming widely known as the Doublemint Twins in a series of ads for Doublemint gum. The sisters also appeared together in The Basketball Diaries and That 80s Show. Cynthia retired from acting in 2002, and she and Hauser married in 2006. The couple have three children: sons Ryland and Colt, and a daughter, Steely Rose.
