Episode 7 of Dutton Ranch, titled “Den of Sin,” premiered on Paramount+ on Friday, June 19, delivering the season’s most revealing chapter yet as Beulah’s past and present collided in stunning fashion at the 10 Petal Ranch’s 190th Anniversary Party.
Beulah’s Secret Past Comes Into Focus
The episode opens in flashback, with a 10 Petal ranch hand named Mariano driving a young Beulah and her friends to a honky tonk. Mariano, who has carried an unexplained hold over Beulah in previous episodes, tells the bartender he’s babysitting his boss’s daughter — and reveals he has a wife and a son named Joaquin at home. That detail reframes Episode 3’s suggestion that Joaquin’s parents lacked the means to raise him and ultimately handed him off to Beulah. When Beulah slips away from Mariano’s watch, he finds her down the road — disheveled, missing a boot, and beaten by a man named Luke she’d met at the bar. The flashback’s full weight lands at the episode’s end, when Beulah suffers a medical emergency mid-party and her mind returns to another anniversary celebration from her past. This time, Mariano finds her on a bathroom floor beside a positive pregnancy test, then drives her to Luke’s house. Through a window silhouette, he watches Beulah shoot Luke twice, killing him. Gun still in hand, she walks out and tells Mariano, “I found my other boot.”
Rob-Will Returns, Forcing Beulah’s Hand
In the present, the anniversary party quickly unravels. Rob-Will — whose return had been previewed — confronts Beulah in her office, reading from her prepared speech announcing Joaquin as her successor. Declaring the ranch his legacy as Robert William Jackson III, he gives Beulah an ultimatum: name him her successor or he will kill Joaquin. Backed into a corner, Beulah takes the microphone and publicly announces that Rob-Will will assume control of the 10 Petal, its beef business, and an upcoming ranch-to-table steak line within five years. Joaquin immediately packs his bags and leaves the property. Business partner Zane Nash — head of Frontier Hospitality Group and a major buyer for high-end Texas hotels — reacts with visible anger upon learning the woman he just struck a deal with is handing power to a known addict. Meanwhile, a drunk Carter crashes the party by hurling a mounted bull head from Beulah’s office onto the ground, sending Rip into action just as Beulah collapses. Among the evening’s quieter threads, Carter meets Beulah for the first time, suffers a blow when Oreana introduces him only as a “friend” while chatting with Harrison Williams, and later learns she has slept with Harrison. On a lighter note, Cassidy Daniels — a contestant from Taylor Sheridan’s singing competition The Road — performs at the party. With only two episodes remaining, Dutton Ranch continues on June 26 and July 3.
