Luke Combs turned an embarrassing case of mistaken identity into a full backstage meet-and-greet after a UK actress accidentally bought tickets to a tribute act instead of the real thing.
Catherine Tyldesley, a British actress with a substantial social media following, set out last Christmas to surprise her husband, Tom Pitfield, with tickets to see Combs perform. Searching for upcoming dates, she discovered what appeared to be the “Hurricane” singer scheduled to play Bridgewater Hall in Manchester — a 2,300-capacity venue — for around 30 quid, roughly $40 a ticket. Neither the intimate venue nor the budget price triggered any alarm bells. Tyldesley bought the tickets, told her coworkers, and basked in the glory of her find.
A Tribute Band, an Irish Accent, and a Hard Realization
The illusion held until the night of the show. When the opening act took the stage and began performing Luke Combs covers with an Irish accent, the pieces fell into place. The couple had paid to see a Luke Combs tribute band. Tyldesley later recounted the story in an Instagram video, laughing at herself and calling it one of the most foolish things she had ever done.
Combs Steps In With Backstage Access
The video spread quickly, eventually reaching a man named John from Sports Entertainment Tours, who offered Tyldesley and Pitfield a pair of tickets to see Combs at Slane Castle in Ireland as part of his My Kinda Saturday Night Tour. The couple accepted — but that was only the beginning. Combs himself heard about the mix-up and arranged backstage passes along with a pre-show meet-and-greet for the pair. The couple brought along a mermaid doll belonging to their four-year-old daughter, Iris, at her specific request.
Tyldesley shared photos from the evening on Instagram, writing that Combs was “an incredible talent and such a kind soul,” adding that the word “special” fell well short of describing the night.
