A fatal vehicle crash on Lower Broadway left one person dead and three others hospitalized after an 87-year-old Kentucky man struck multiple pedestrians in the heart of downtown Nashville on Saturday, August 1.
The Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed the collision took place in the afternoon at the intersection of Broadway and 4th Avenue, one of the city’s busiest tourist corridors. As of the time of reporting, the intersection remained closed and the vehicle involved had not been removed from the scene. Authorities have not yet released information about the victims or their conditions.

MNPD’s Traffic Division is leading the investigation into what caused the crash. Police have not yet determined whether the driver failed to stop for pedestrians, and no further details about potential charges or the driver’s circumstances have been made public.

Mayor O’Connell Responds
Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell issued a statement expressing condolences to those affected. “This is an incredibly tragic event, and my heart goes out to the victims and their families impacted by this horrible moment,” O’Connell said, adding that it remained “unclear” whether the driver failed to yield to pedestrians. The mayor emphasized that the immediate priorities were caring for the victims and ensuring public safety, stating, “Our main goals now are to take care of the victims and to keep everyone else safe.”
