Frank Caprio was born on November 24, 1936, in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the son of Italian immigrants who taught him the value of hard work and community. Caprio served in the U.S. Army before pursuing higher education.

He earned degrees from Providence College and Suffolk University Law School. After graduation, he began working in private legal practice. Despite this, Caprio always felt a strong pull toward public service.

 

 

In 1962, he was elected to the Providence City Council, serving until 1968. This period helped him understand the challenges faced by ordinary citizens. His experience on the council laid the foundation for his future role in the judiciary.

In 1985, Caprio was appointed as a judge in the Providence Municipal Court. He served in this role with distinction for nearly four decades. His colleagues often praised his fairness, patience, and ability to treat everyone with respect.

Governor Dan McKee ordered flags to fly at half-staff in Rhode Island. He called Caprio “a true Rhode Island treasure” and praised his dedication to justice and compassion. Tributes poured in from across the country, reflecting the impact of his life and work.
