Jelly Roll has claimed a spot among country music’s most important modern artists, landing at No. 8 on Taste of Country’s ongoing countdown of the 25 Most Important Modern Country Artists.
The Nashville-based rapper-turned-country singer has carved out one of the genre’s most surprising trajectories in recent memory, accumulating seven No. 1 singles at country radio and releasing two studio albums that cemented his crossover appeal. The ranking, compiled by Taste of Country staff, weighs chart performance, streaming numbers, ticket sales, perceived influence, awards, and recent releases.
From Rap to Radio Dominance
Jelly Roll stepped into country music with his 2023 debut country album Whitsitt Chapel, which generated immediate commercial momentum. He followed it in 2024 with Beautifully Broken, extending his reach further into the mainstream. His first country No. 1 came with “Son of a Sinner” in 2022, and subsequent hits — including “Need a Favor,” “Save Me,” and “Heart of Stone” — have kept him a consistent presence at the top of country radio charts.
Where He Stands in the Countdown
Taste of Country’s list focuses specifically on artists shaping the genre through popular releases today. To qualify without a recent album or charting single, an artist must demonstrate influence in other ways — a standard that underscores just how active Jelly Roll’s output has been. Positioned at No. 8, he sits ahead of acts like Shaboozey at No. 9 and Kacey Musgraves at No. 10, with the top seven entries scheduled for release between July 1 and July 7.
With the upper half of the countdown still to be revealed, fans will find out in the coming days which artists Taste of Country has ranked above Jelly Roll as the definitive list takes shape.
