Ella Langley has emerged as the dominant force in country music so far in 2026, claiming more spots than any other artist on Taste of Country’s mid-year ranking of the genre’s best songs.
The outlet’s curated list of the Top 13 Country Songs of 2026 reflects a combination of streaming data, sales figures, staff opinion, reader input, and notable live performances. Compiled by writer Billy Dukes, the mid-year tally serves as a preliminary look at the year’s strongest material, with a final version set to publish in December 2026.
Langley Leads a Female-Driven Year
Langley appears three times on the 13-song list — more than any other act — including one entry alongside duet partner Morgan Wallen. The “Choosin’ Texas” singer is the only artist with multiple placements and holds the No. 1 position. Beyond Langley, the list features five other women: Lainey Wilson, Stella Lefty, Kacey Musgraves, and Carly Pearce, with one additional female artist described as a contender for newcomer of the year.
In total, the list includes five collaborations, one duo, four solo female entries, and three solo male entries. Three of the 13 songs have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, while several others remain on the climb.
Independent Artists Also Get Their Due
The ranking is designed to reward quality across all levels of the industry. Independent artists are explicitly part of the conversation, with the outlet noting that one or two lesser-known songs appear alongside established names — a deliberate choice meant to highlight breakthrough talent. Every song included must stand out for a specific reason, whether that’s lyrical craft, melody, arrangement, or message.
With the final list due at year’s end, the rankings will continue to evolve as new music is released throughout the remainder of 2026.
