Netflix’s highly anticipated reboot of Little House on the Prairie arrives on Thursday, July 9, with all eight episodes of the first season dropping simultaneously on the platform.
The revival marks the beloved franchise’s return to television more than 30 years after the original series, which ran from 1974 to 1983 and drew from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s acclaimed books about her frontier childhood. Netflix ordered the reboot in January 2025, and the project has since assembled a new cast to carry the Ingalls family story into a fresh era of television.
Meet the New Ingalls Family
Alice Halsey steps into the central role of Laura Ingalls, joined by Luke Bracey as Charles “Pa” Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls. Netflix announced the casting earlier this year, generating significant attention from fans of the original.

What Season One Is About — and Where to Watch
The first season draws from the third book in Wilder’s series, following the Ingalls family as they relocate to the small town of Independence, Kansas, only to encounter a string of hardships that challenge their hopes for a fresh start. Netflix describes the show as “part family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West,” promising to deliver “a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”
The series is exclusive to Netflix, meaning a subscription is required to watch. An official trailer is available below ahead of the premiere.
Viewers who work through all eight episodes quickly won’t have to wait long for answers about what comes next — Netflix confirmed a second season renewal back in March, before the first season had even aired.
