Ella Langley opened up about her faith and mental health struggles during a recent show in Oklahoma City, telling the crowd that she has learned to turn to God rather than unhealthy coping mechanisms during tough times. The country singer said that instead of leaning on things like men, drugs, or other escapes as she had in the past, she now goes to God first — and has made a habit of reading her Bible nearly every day over the past year.
Langley also reflected on a deeply personal low point in which she battled depression so severe that she questioned whether she wanted to continue living. She admitted she wasn’t sure she could keep pursuing the career she had devoted her whole life to, a struggle that appeared to coincide with a period when she stepped back from performing to focus on her mental and physical health. During that time, she said she leaned on family and worked to strengthen her relationship with God.
Coming out the other side of that chapter gave Langley a renewed sense of purpose as an artist. She told the crowd her mission is to share her testimony, connect honestly with her fans, write the best songs she can, and put on the best show possible. She also encouraged anyone going through a hard time to focus on God as their guide and aim to improve just a little each day.
Themes of mental health and faith run throughout Langley’s music. Her Hungover album includes “Monsters,” which tackles inner turmoil, while her Dandelion album features “Loving Life Again,” inspired by her recovery, as well as “Speaking Terms,” a song about her relationship with God.
