Radney Foster is recovering from a sepsis diagnosis that put him in the intensive care unit earlier this month and forced him off the road.
The Texas-born singer-songwriter updated fans on social media on June 28, confirming he had been hospitalized following a serious infection that progressed to sepsis. Though he has since been released from the ICU and is improving, his doctors have directed him to stay off the road while he heals. For fans who had tickets to upcoming dates, the news means more rescheduling ahead.
Shows Postponed Through Mid-July
Foster is canceling all performances through July 14 on medical advice, though he confirmed that shows scheduled in the second half of July remain on the calendar. He first disclosed the hospitalization to fans on July 9, when an initial round of dates was postponed. A statement released at that time noted he had been admitted to the hospital and, while his condition was improving, his medical team recommended he step away from touring to prioritize his recovery.
In his June 28 update, Foster expressed gratitude to supporters who reached out during his illness. “Thank you for all the prayers, kind words and support. It has meant the world to me,” he wrote. “I can’t wait to see you out there again soon.” He also pointed fans toward his artist-curated BorderTown Radio station, saying he had been staying occupied by curating the station, sharing stories, and revisiting old demos.
A Long Career in Country Music
Foster built his reputation in country music starting in the late 1980s as one half of the duo Foster & Lloyd, whose single “Crazy Over You” climbed to No. 4 on the country charts in 1987. After the duo parted ways to pursue solo work, Foster charted several hits of his own through the 1990s. Beyond performing, he has established himself as a sought-after songwriter, with cuts recorded by Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn, The Chicks, Sara Evans, and Holly Dunn, among others.
With late-July dates still on the books, fans will be watching closely to see Foster return to the stage as his recovery continues.
