Megan Moroney has revealed that her stage costumes can tip the scales at up to 15 pounds — a detail that led her to overhaul how she physically prepares for her Cloud 9 Tour.
The country singer opened up about the demands of live performance during an appearance on the Bobbycast, explaining that the weight of her concert outfits caught her off guard early in her touring career. With a headlining set requiring constant movement across a stage under heavy lighting for an hour or more, those extra pounds add up fast.
Training With Weight Before Hitting the Stage
Moroney said she now runs rehearsals wearing a weighted vest to simulate the physical strain of performing in full costume. “I’ve underestimated how sometimes my outfits weigh 10 to 15 pounds,” she told the podcast. Before adopting that approach, she admitted there were moments mid-performance when she realized she hadn’t adequately prepared for the physical demands. Her current regimen goes beyond the vest — she also rehearses while on a treadmill to build the cardio endurance a full show requires.
Cold Plunges Round Out Her Recovery Routine
Alongside her weighted training sessions, Moroney incorporates daily sauna and cold tub sessions into her preparation. Cold-water immersion — the practice of submerging the body in water typically ranging from 50° F to 59° F — is used by athletes and performers alike for recovery benefits, according to the Mayo Clinic. Moroney joins a growing list of country artists who rely on the practice, including Kenny Chesney, Jelly Roll, and Dierks Bentley.
As the Cloud 9 Tour continues its run, Moroney’s candid breakdown of what it physically takes to headline a show offers fans a rare look at the preparation happening long before the lights come up.
