A Boeing 737 cargo aircraft operated by K2 Airways vanished off the coast of Pakistan on Tuesday night with five crew members on board, sparking an emergency search-and-rescue operation that has since located the plane’s wreckage.
The aircraft departed Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates bound for Karachi when it lost contact with air traffic controllers at approximately 9:21 p.m. local time on July 7, according to Pakistan’s Airport Authority. Just minutes before communication was severed, the crew reported a navigation system malfunction. Preliminary data from Flightradar24 shows the Boeing 737 underwent significant altitude fluctuations before dropping rapidly off radar.
Wreckage Found After 12-Hour Search
After roughly 12 hours of searching, authorities located the wreckage in the Arabian Sea near the coastal town of Ormara in southern Pakistan. Search operations for the five crew members remain ongoing, and officials have not released any information about their condition.
K2 Airways and Authorities Respond
K2 Airways, a private cargo carrier founded in Karachi in 2018, issued a statement on Wednesday identifying the five crew members who were aboard the missing aircraft. The airline stated it is working in close coordination with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and other government agencies.
With the wreckage now confirmed and search efforts continuing in the Arabian Sea, the status of the five crew members remains the critical focus for Pakistani aviation authorities and rescue teams.
