Newly obtained police records reveal that Storage Wars personality Darrell Sheets was grappling with family conflict, relentless cyberbullying, and severe stress in the weeks before his death.
Sheets, a fan-favorite cast member on the A&E reality series, died on April 22 at his Lake Havasu City, Arizona home at age 67. Police ruled his death a suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound. Documents obtained by TMZ now offer a more detailed picture of the circumstances surrounding his final days.
A Note, Sleepless Nights, and Online Harassment
According to the police reports, Sheets had been under what his girlfriend described as “tremendous stress” for months and frequently struggled to sleep. She told investigators their relationship was in a good place and that he had never expressed any intention to harm himself. On the night he died, she found him standing in the doorway to his office; he told her to go back to bed. She later heard a single gunshot.
Officers discovered a handwritten note — described as shaky in appearance — inside a black basket in a closet near where Sheets’ body was found. A police summary indicated the note referenced his inability to cope with “Facebook bullying.” Several of his Storage Wars co-stars, including Laura and Don Dotson and Rene Nezhoda, had previously spoken out about the severity of the online abuse Sheets endured. Laura Dotson said the harassment left him “terrified for his life,” while Nezhoda described a campaign of impersonation and serious threats to Sheets’ reputation.
Family Tension in His Final Days
The police records also document a heated argument between Sheets and his son Brandon shortly before his death. Brandon Sheets appeared regularly on Storage Wars from 2010 through approximately 2017, frequently teaming with his father to bid on storage lockers. According to the girlfriend’s account to investigators, the two argued over “family drama” and things escalated to the point that she left the house. Sheets reportedly told her he did not want to be left alone with his son and expressed feeling that he had “let him down.”
Following that visit, Sheets received text messages from his daughter-in-law accusing his girlfriend of stealing money from him. Sheets also has a daughter named Tiffany. He had been a fixture on Storage Wars from its debut season in 2010 through 2023.
