Following a week of artists announcing they were bowing out from performing at the Great American State Fair, which will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, President Donald Trump responded with a solution.
Writing on Truth Social on May 30, Trump began by calling out those who had dropped out from the event, describing them as having succumbed to “the yips,” which is a term often used in regard to athletes who have a sudden and unexplainable loss of motor proficiency.
While he did not call them out by name, Poison lead singer, Bret Michaels, who won Trump’s NBC reality series Celebrity Apprentice in 2010, was one of the notable artists to back out. The Commodores, whose co-founding member, Ronald LaPread, died at the age of 75 on May 30; and Martina McBride also pulled out from performing.
Ultimately, Trump went on to pitch that he should replace these artists with himself as the headliner of the event… and the president went on to compare himself to “the king.”

From June 25 to July 10, the Great American State Fair will be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., celebrating 250 years of America declaring its independence in 1776.
Throughout the course of the event, several artists are scheduled to perform, despite many notable names who have chosen to cancel their participation in the festivities.
Now, in the evening before the start of the Great American State Fair, on June 24, President Trump is slated to kick off the event.

This announcement came a matter of hours after Trump posted on Truth Social on May 30 that he should headline the opening of the Great American State Fair.
“I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar,” wrote Trump.
Earlier this year, Trump visited the famed estate of Elvis Presley, Graceland, located in Memphis, Tennessee.
While there, Trump said of the late “King of Rock and Roll,” “[Elvis is] the most famous person on the planet. Let’s see, who else would be more famous than Elvis? Nobody that I can think of.”
Trump went on to describe himself as “the man who loves our Country more than anyone else,” as well as “the man who some say is the Greatest President in History.”
Parenthetically, and in all caps, he then called himself “THE GOAT,” adding that he should “take the place of these highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists,’ and give a major speech, rallying the Country forward like I have done ever since being President!”
Later on May 30, Trump would go on to write in a separate Truth Social post that the concert should be replaced with a Make America Great Again rally, adding, “Cancel it.”
He prefaced that by saying that the rally would be an appropriate alternative to a concert, writing the rally should occur “instead of having overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear, whose music is boring, and yet who do nothing but complain.”
As of June 1, the Great American State Fair is still on, with Trump set to open the event on June 24.
