President Donald Trump is billing the July 4, 2026, fireworks display in Washington, D.C., as the largest in world history, anchoring a sweeping national celebration called “Salute To America” that marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The milestone anniversary has already been preceded by a series of patriotic events — military flyovers, a UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House, and the launch of the Great American State Fair. Now the centerpiece arrives: a full day of programming at the Washington Monument Grounds, culminating in a fireworks show that organizers say will shatter existing records.
What’s Planned for the Day
According to the Salute To America 250 website, 850,000 fireworks shells will be launched from ten sites, including the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, eight Potomac River barges, and West Potomac Park. Freedom 250, the organization behind the event, has published a detailed schedule: opening programming kicks off at 5 p.m. EST, the formal Salute To America program begins at 7 p.m., Trump delivers his remarks at 9:45 p.m., and the fireworks launch at 10:30 p.m. NPR reports organizers say the show will run 40 minutes.
Trump first telegraphed the scale of the display during his June 24 speech at the Great American State Fair launch. “I’ll be very proudly speaking as we ring in our 250th year with the largest fireworks display in world history,” he said. “10 times larger than any that we’ve ever done in Washington or anywhere in the United States.” Speaking at the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library on July 1, Trump added a characteristically blunt aside: “By the way, on July 4th, it’s going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I’m going to go and I’m gonna make a really long speech just to show I can do anything.”
The show is being produced by Pyrotechnico, the same company that deployed 1,000 drones to form an American flag in smoke at MLB Opening Night in March. For context, NPR notes that the current world record for the largest fireworks display belongs to a megachurch in the Philippines, which fired approximately 811,000 fireworks in 2016 — a figure the Washington event is designed to surpass.
How to Watch From Home
C-SPAN will carry the full program beginning at 5 p.m. EST, with a simultaneous livestream on the C-SPAN website. The YouTube channels for both Freedom 250 and the White House are also expected to stream the event live, consistent with their coverage of the Great American State Fair opening.
With the fireworks record attempt, a presidential address, and a full evening of programming all converging on the National Mall, the “Salute To America” represents the most ambitious single-day celebration tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary — and viewers both on the ground and at home will have multiple ways to take it in.
