Trump Administration Looks To Design $250 Bill Featuring President Trump
The U.S. Treasury Department is reportedly looking into the possibility of issuing a $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump. According to reports, administration officials have allegedly pushed the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to develop prototypes for the proposed bill.
The report states that U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach and senior adviser Mike Brown repeatedly urged bureau staff to begin preparing designs for the commemorative note, which would mark the nation’s 250th anniversary.
In January, Rep. Andy Barr, (R-KY), shared on X an image of a reported mock-up of the bill, depicting President Trump against a red, white and blue background.
America is turning 250—and it’s time to make more history! Today, I met with @TreasurerBeach on my proposal to put President Donald Trump on a new $250 bill. Treasury Department Responds To Proposed Legislation
In a statement, a Treasury Department spokesperson said the agency is conducting “appropriate planning and due diligence” in response to the legislation introduced by Rep. Joe Wilson. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has acknowledged that the department has taken preliminary steps while emphasizing that any final decision rests with Congress.
“For U.S. currency at present, no living person can be on U.S. currency, and the currency must say ‘In God We Trust’,” Bessent said. “So right now, there is proposed legislation that is in front of the House, in front of the Senate, to change the first requirement so that a living person, Donald J. Trump, could be on the $250 bill.”
I’m grateful to have introduced the ‘Donald J. Trump $250 Bill Act’ and will work with my colleagues to pass this legislation. This is a symbol of appreciation for the 250th Anniversary of our great country and to recognize @POTUS who is achieving Peace Through Strength and… pic.twitter.com/itFZrsME8x

What Does The Proposal Need To Pass?
The initiative has raised concern among current and former agency employees because federal law currently prohibits living individuals from appearing on U.S. currency.
The proposal would require congressional approval before any such bill could be issued. The $250 bill would introduce a denomination not currently issued by the Federal Reserve, which circulates only $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 notes.
An AI-generated rendering included in a press release on Wilson’s website shows the proposed bill featuring a color portrait of President Trump on the left side of the currency.
If approved, a new $250 bill would likely take years to reach circulation. According to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, developing and producing new currency designs is a lengthy process, with final designs typically unveiled just six to eight months before release in an effort to deter counterfeiters.
